When you’re passionate about citrus plants, working hand-in-hand with Mother Nature to ensure they thrive is instinctive.
It’s this passion that inspired us to create the Citrina family of miniature ornamental citrus plants in the early 1980s.
But our roots go back further than that…
Back in 1970 British couple Andrew and Lindsey Henley-Welch dreamed of creating a citrus tree farm somewhere hot and sunny. The couple moved to Portugal where their passion became a reality. In fact they were so good at it that, by 1980, their nursery was providing local Portuguese farmers with beautiful fruit trees.
Word spread, and soon they were supplying citrus trees to farmers across Portugal. Then in the 1980s, Andrew and Lindsey branched out into ornamental plants and very soon became internationally recognised as ‘the’ European specialists in miniature or dwarf ornamental citrus plants.
After yet more research, development and love for these exquisite houseplants, the couple went on to develop a range of citrus houseplants with certified edible fruit. Today all Citrina miniature citrus plants yield edible fruit – the result of 45 years of passion for this most beautiful, aromatic and practical of all houseplants.

HOW CITRINAS GROW:
Nurtured with love
Your Citrina is at least three years old when it reaches you. Nurtured from seed, it has undergone a three-year process of rigorous monitoring and loving care. We also use a precise, time-honoured technique to ‘cross’ different varieties to combine the best characteristics of each plant.
Your Citrina’s life starts with a dormant seed germinated in a controlled greenhouse environment. As it grows, the stem reaches the right width and height to be grafted. Another Citrina that bears the fruit you see on your plant is then grafted onto the rootstock.
We use a specific dwarfing rootstock for our potted Citrinas. It has tough disease-resistant roots, a sturdy stem and dark, healthy leaves. The plant flowers heavily, aromatically and produces an abundance of zesty fruit.
During its first two years of life, your Citrina is carefully nurtured by experts who ensure it gets just enough water and food to grow into a healthy, thriving plant. Plants are monitored daily and occasionally pruned to encourage the bushy growth and shape that looks so attractive in your home.

Quando se é apaixonado por plantas cÃtricas, de trabalhar lado a lado com a Mãe Natureza para garantir que elas prosperam, é instintivo.
É essa paixão que nos inspirou a criar a famÃlia de plantas cÃtricas ornamentais em miniatura Citrina no inÃcio de 1980.
Mas as nossas raÃzes são ainda mais profundas...
Em 1970, o casal britânico Andrew e Lindsey Henley-Welch sonhava em criar uma fazenda de árvores citrinas num lugar quente e ensolarado. O casal mudou-se para Portugal, onde a sua paixão se tornou uma realidade. Na realidade, eles eram tão bons que, em 1980, o seu viveiro forneceu agricultores portugueses locais com belas árvores de fruto.
A palavra espalhou-se e pouco depois começaram a fornecer árvores cÃtricas a agricultores para o resto de Portugal. Em seguida, na década de 1980, Andrew e Lindsey diversificaram-se em plantas ornamentais e muito em breve tornaram-se reconhecidos internacionalmente como 'os especialistas europeus em plantas cÃtricas ornamentais em miniatura ou anãs".
Depois de ainda mais pesquisa, desenvolvimento e amor por estas requintadas plantas de interior, o casal passou a desenvolver uma gama de plantas de casa cÃtricas com frutos comestÃveis certificados. Hoje, todas as plantas cÃtricas miniatura Citrina produzem frutos comestÃveis - o resultado de 45 anos de paixão por esta mais bonita, aromática e prática de todas as plantas de casa.

COMO AS CITRINAS CRESCEM:
Nutridas com amor
A sua Citrina, quando chega até si, tem pelo menos três anos de idade. Alimentada a partir de sementes, ela foi submetida a um processo de acompanhamento rigoroso e um cuidado amoroso de três anos. Nós usamos uma técnica precisa, consagrada pelo tempo, para cruzar diferentes variedades e combinar as melhores caracterÃsticas de cada planta.
A vida da sua Citrina começa como uma semente dormente, germinada num ambiente de estufa controlada. À medida que cresce, a haste atinge a largura e a altura certa para ser enxertada. Outra Citrina, que dá os frutos que vê na sua planta, é então enxertada no porta-enxerto.
Nós usamos um porta-enxerto especÃfico para Citrinas em vasos. Estas têm raÃzes resistentes a doenças persistentes, uma haste resistente e escura, com folhas saudáveis. A planta floresce abundante e aromaticamente, produzindo uma panóplia de frutas saborosas.
Durante os primeiros dois anos de vida, a sua Citrina é cuidadosamente alimentada por especialistas que garantem que recebe água e comida suficente para crescer e se tornar numa planta saudável e próspera. As plantas são monitorizadas diariamente e, ocasionalmente, podadas para incentivar o crescimento denso e de forma que pareça atraente na sua casa.

This interesting variety is the result of crossing the key lime with a round kumquat, citrus japonica and citrus aurantifolia, to produce a unique hybrid of the qualities and flavours of both fruits.
Flowering/fruiting:
In Europe, Lyvia will naturally flower from June and July, producing a bounty of colourful fruit from October to April.

ORIGEM:
Esta variedade interessante é o resultado do cruzamento da Lima com um kumquat rodado, fortunella e lima comum, para produzir um hÃbrido exclusivo com qualidades e sabores de ambos os frutos.

ORIANA 14CM,Calamondin
ORIGIN:
This Calamondin Orange is a small fruit from the Orient. This variety is widely cultivated in the Philippines, Hawaii, United States and Europe and is often given as a gift during the Chinese New Year to signify good luck.
Flowering/fruiting:
The Calamondin produces a vivid display of intensely perfumed flowers from March onwards. Fruit matures by November and can stay on the tree for more than six months.

ORIGEM:
Esta Laranja Calamondin é uma pequena fruta do Oriente. Esta variedade é amplamente cultivada nas Filipinas, Havai, Estados Unidos e Europa e é muitas vezes dada como presente durante o Ano Novo Chinês para significar boa sorte.
Floração/Frutos:
O Calamondin produz uma apresentação viva de flores intensamente perfumadas a partir de Março. O fruto amadurece em novembro e pode permanecer na árvore por mais de seis meses.
